Laboratory for Mechatronic and Renewable Energy Systems
Task?
At the Laboratory for Mechatronic and Renewable Energy Systems (LMRES), we focus on the design, modelling, control and simulation of intelligent, mechatronic and renewable energy systems. Our aim is to improve the efficiency, fault tolerance, functionality, robustness, safety and reliability of the components and systems under consideration. We develop intelligent components and systems for power electronics and drive technology
Facilities?
The equipment in the Laboratory for Mechatronic and Renewable Energy Systems (LMRES) is used for both teaching and research purposes and includes:
• a wide range of electric machines in various power classes (including double-fed asynchronous machines, electrically-excited synchronous machines, permanent-magnet synchronous machines, reluctance synchronous machines and multi-phase machines);
• a wide range of converters in various power classes (including two-level and multi-level converters with freely controllable valves);
• various mains filter topologies (L, LC and LCL filters) for the mains connection of power electronic actuators;
• Power system simulator for simulating power system imbalances, harmonics and faults;
• galvanically isolated control transformer;
• high-resolution sensors (including current, voltage and torque sensors, and encoders);
• Flexibly programmable real-time systems (DSP, FPGA, etc.) for the rapid prototyping of control algorithms;
• Standard laboratory equipment (including oscilloscopes, multimeters, Labornet, etc.)
Projects in the laboratory?
Our current teaching and research focus is on power grids (AC/DC systems) and the electrical components of, for example, electric vehicles, industrial drives, biogas plants, wind turbines for aircraft, geothermal power stations, large and small wind turbines, wave power stations and high-voltage direct current transmission systems (HVDC systems). Further information can be found on our laboratory page.
Where is the laboratory located?
The LMRES is located in rooms B0.172 (ISES Joint Laboratory), B0.254 (Hardware-in-the-Loop Laboratory) and B0.275 (Computing and Simulation Laboratory).
