Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering – Electromobility
Mobility and climate protection are now issues in our society that are no longer at odds with one another. We train young people so that they can play an active part in bringing innovative ideas in the field of mobility to fruition, whilst at the same time protecting the environment.
Even though electric mobility still plays a minor role in the everyday street scene in Germany, it is nevertheless certain that electric vehicles will dominate the way people travel in the long term. In other countries, such as China or Denmark, electric mobility is already an integral part of the street scene. Many well-trained engineers are needed to develop the technologies required for this. The bachelor's degree programme in ‘Electrical Engineering – Electric Mobility’ is dedicated to training students for this role. Furthermore, with its comprehensive grounding in electrical engineering, the programme also equips you to work in other areas of electrical engineering.
The “Electrical Engineering – Electromobility” degree programme is an electrical engineering course specialising in topics relating to electric drive technology. Following the teaching of fundamental mathematical and electrical engineering knowledge in the first three semesters, the specialisation begins in the fourth semester with the modules ‘Electric Vehicle Drives 1’ and ‘Power Electronics’. This initial specialisation is an important prerequisite for the engineering placement in the following fifth semester, during which you can gain your first practical experience in the field of electromobility.
In the sixth and seventh semesters, this specialisation is then explored in greater depth. In addition to the two foundational modules, ‘Electrodynamics’ and ‘Advanced Programming Practice’, you will undertake eight subject-specific modules that will qualify you for work in the automotive sector. You are free to choose the so-called WP2 module yourself. If you have a particular interest in the field of autonomous systems or autonomous driving, we recommend choosing the compulsory elective module “Introduction to Machine Learning” or the “Autonomous Systems Project”. For further specialisation in this area, we then offer the “Autonomous Systems” specialisation within the Master’s programme in “Electrical Engineering”.The programme culminates in a Bachelor’s thesis, which is primarily carried out in industry. This gives you the opportunity to establish contact with future employers at this early stage.
If you wish to put what you have learnt into practice straight away, you can demonstrate your skills and gain valuable additional experience in various projects, such as the Formula Student Racing Team or the Shell Eco-Marathon.
On the ‘Electrical Engineering – Electromobility’ degree programme, you will acquire all the skills required to develop and work with electric drive systems. You will be familiar with all the fundamental principles of electrical engineering, be able to design circuits and write software, and thus work in all areas of vehicle electronics. In addition, the modules “Vehicle Engineering” and “Technical Mechanics” will equip you to work effectively within the often interdisciplinary teams found in the automotive industry. Alongside purely technical skills, projects and non-technical modules will also help you develop the abilities to select appropriate working methods, organise your work and collaborate successfully in teams – abilities that are becoming increasingly important in today’s working world.
The “Electrical Engineering – Electromobility” degree programme is a comprehensive course of study which, upon completion, will enable you to work immediately as an electrical engineer, whilst also qualifying you to progress to a subsequent Master’s programme. Thanks to the internships integrated into almost all modules, the programme not only provides you with theoretical knowledge but also equips you with the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
The automotive industry is one of the largest employers in Germany, and with BMW and Audi, two of Germany’s leading car manufacturers are based in the Greater Munich area. The bachelor's degree programme in “Electrical Engineering – Electromobility” will equip you to work directly for one of these car manufacturers or for one of the countless automotive suppliers and engineering service providers. Here, you can establish yourself in a variety of fields of work. These include, for example, development, project planning and system design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and servicing, operations and maintenance, sales, as well as monitoring and assessment.
In particular, upon completion of your degree, you will be qualified to design electric drive systems, specify components for electric powertrains, oversee test benches for the validation of electric vehicles, manage automotive suppliers, or support customers as staff members of an automotive supplier.
