ÖKOPROFIT Munich
Corporate environmental protection that pays off
Organisations as diverse as the film technology company ARRI, the building cleaning firm Vitti, the Rischart bakery, Hochschule München and FC Bayern Munich have one thing in common: they are pioneers when it comes to economically viable environmental protection and have already been recognised as ÖKOPROFIT organisations. ÖKOPROFIT (ÖKOlogical PROject for Integrated Environmental Technology) is an exciting collaborative project launched by the City of Munich and other partners such as the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria.
The aim? To combine sustainability with cost savings! Through smart measures such as waste prevention, energy and water savings, and emissions reduction, the participating businesses are making lasting improvements to their environmental performance. The highlight: last year, 17 businesses managed to save a whopping 600,000 euros. Environmental friendliness and cost-efficiency go hand in hand here – and with style!
With ÖKOPROFIT, environmental protection becomes a top priority! Whether small bakeries or large corporations – everyone benefits from bespoke workshops and personalised advice from experienced environmental experts. Equipped with tried-and-tested resources, businesses implement sustainable practices in a targeted manner. Those who rise to the challenge can proudly call themselves a “Munich ÖKOPROFIT business”.
What began in Munich in 1998 as a pioneering project is now inspiring the whole of Germany: from Hamburg to Erfurt, over 50 ÖKOPROFIT initiatives involving almost 800 companies are making the environment the winner. The state capital, Munich, stands ready to actively support other towns, committed initiatives and businesses as they join the programme. And to top it all off, there’s a comprehensive database featuring the best practices from German ÖKOPROFIT businesses. Protecting the environment not only makes sense, it’s also fun!
Dachauerstr.
With its 14 departments and around 13,500 students, Hochschule München is one of Germany’s largest universities – a true giant in education! In particular, Department 03 (Mechanical Engineering, Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering) and Department 04 (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) at the Lothstraße 64 and Dachauerstraße 98b campuses are genuine hubs of knowledge.
In 2004/2005, Hochschule München took the plunge into uncharted green territory and took part in the Munich ÖKOPROFIT project – a real adventure, especially for a state university with so many independent departments and laboratories. But it was well worth it: thanks to ÖKOPROFIT, resource conservation and environmental protection have entered the consciousness of everyone involved and have grown in importance. Here, education is combined with a green thumb!
